Dilation and Curettage (D&C)
Dilation and Curettage (D&C) is a procedure in which your physician will open your cervix and remove a piece of tissue from the inner lining of your uterus using a small instrument. D&C may be used to relieve abnormal uterine bleeding or to find abnormal cells that could be the cause of a miscarriage.
Though most women are able to go home within a few hours of this procedure, you may experience mild pain. A new lining will begin to grow inside your uterus to replace what was removed, and this may affect the timing of your next period.
Make sure to ask your provider when you can use tampons or have sex again after the procedure.
