After giving birth, many women experience stress, sadness, anxiety, and loneliness, also known as the “baby blues.” This is more common and less severe than postpartum depression, which is very difficult to deal with. Talking to your obstetrician is important for your recovery if you are experiencing any of these symptoms:
- Eating considerably more or less than usual
- Loss of interest in things you normally find pleasure in
- Excessive mood swings
- Anxiety or panic attacks
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Thoughts of hurting yourself or the baby
- Misery
- Inability to sleep
- Self-blame
Contact your doctor immediately if you are struggling with any of these so that you may be treated as soon as possible.
